Learn to Skate

WELCOME TO LEARN TO SKATE

Whether you're a complete beginner eager to experience the thrill of gliding on wheels or an intermediate and advanced skater looking to enhance your techniques, Skate City has classes catered to all skill levels. Led by experienced instructors, each session is designed to provide a safe and supportive environment as you develop balance, coordination, and confidence on wheels. From learning the fundamental basics to mastering advanced maneuvers, our curriculum covers it all. 

And don't forget that all Skate City Sports members can SKATE FOR FREE on Saturdays from 10:00am to 12:00pm.  


SATURDAYS  9:15-10:00 AM

Beginner class skill requirements for certificate:

  • Skate forward safely

  • Stop safely

  • One foot balance & roll on each foot for 3 seconds

  • Be prepared and comfortable with starting to learning to go backwards in the intermediate class

Beginner Class Breakdown

  • 5 minutes - Introduction

    • Warm up

    • Stretch 

    • Review safe skating skills

  • 10 minutes - Forward skating

    • Marching

    • Scissors (Bubbles/Lemons)

  • 5 minutes - Forward arching

    • Left foot

    • Right foot

    • Combination with scissor/marching

  • 10 minutes - Forward stopping

    • Toe stopping - left & right foot

    • T-stopping - left & right foot

  • 5 minutes - Cannon ball

  • 5 minutes - Game (Instructor’s choice - choose 1)

    • Limbo

    • Red light/Green light

    • Hokey Pokey

    • Lines are Lava

    • Simon says

    • Follow the leader

  • 5 minutes - Free Skate & Skills Check out

  • 2 hours - All skates with class or sports memberships skate for free on Saturdays 10:00-12:00 pm.

SUNDAYS  9:30-10:30 AM

Intermediate class skill requirements for certificate:

  • Skate backwards safely

  • Stop backwards safely

  • Transition from forward to backward & backward to forward in both directions safely 

  • Forward cross pulls safely

  • Be prepared and comfortable with starting to learning more advanced skills in the advanced class

Intermediate Class Breakdown

  • 10 minutes - Backward skating

    • Marching

    • Scissors 

    • Arching

  • 5 minutes - Backwards stopping

    • Toe stopping (quads)

    • C-cut (Inlines)

  • 10 minutes - Spread Eagles

    • Clockwise 

    • Counterclockwise 

    • Straight leading with left

    • Straight leading with right

  • 5 minutes - Transitions

    • Forward & Back to the left

    • Forward & Back to the right

  • 5 minutes - Forward Crossovers

    • Left over right

    • Right over left

  • 5 minutes - Forward Cross pulls

    • Clockwise

    • Counterclockwise

  • 10 minutes - Student’s choice 

    • Spirals

    • Shoot the ducks

    • Coffin

    • Manuals

    • Cone course - 2 feet

  • 5 minutes - Game (Instructor’s choice - choose 1)

    • Copycat

  • 10 minutes - Manual Work

    • In place - Heel/Toe, Heel/Heel, Toe/Toe

    • Rolling straight - Heel/Toe, Heel/Heel, Toe/Toe

    • Combinations

  • 10 minutes - Cone Work 

    • Left  foot slalom 

    • Right foot slalom

    • Manual slalom - Heel/Toe, Heel/Heel, Toe/Toe

  • 10 minutes - Skater’s choice

    • Jumps

    • Spins

    • Grapevine

    • Trick combinations

    • Transitions 

  • 10 minutes - Group Skating Choreo

    • Dance Skate Choreo

    • Synchro Choreo

  • 5 minutes - Game (Instructors choice - choose 1)
